Hey Mama, I see you
Getting bigger every day
Praying for your little one
Who’s safely tucked away.
Hey there, Mama, I see you
As you push away your fears
Of the unknown, new, and uncertain
When you’re holding back the tears.
Hey little Mama, I see you
Getting ready for the big day
How can clothes be so tiny?
Does the swelling ever go away?
Hey Mama, I see you
As you fight through the pain
To hold that bundle in your arms
Your life-never the same.
I started reading this poem, not thinking much about it. For very obvious reasons (i’m 7 months pregnant), my eyes filled with tears. I’m not even sure why. I think it’s because I felt understood by the words. The simplicity of these words comforted my heart, almost as a close friend who has heard my thoughts… How CAN clothes be so tiny? I didn’t know my ankles would swell like this… And while I fight the back pain every day and push away the fear of child birth, I know in the end it will all be worth it when he’s here in our arms.
